Self Installation Guidelines

This form addresses the issues involved with self installation or sub-contractor installation of counter sub-tops appliances and countertops. Please follow the specifications very carefully in order to assure a proper installation.

1.
CABINETS INSTALLED and secured to the wall. Upper cabinets need to be
installed if full backsplashes are specified. Doors, drawers, side panels in
place. Anything that relates to the granite/silestone must be in place;
garden windows, sills, upper and lower bars, light rails. Microwaves and
hoods installed or on site so they can be measured.
2.
SUBTOPS installed, 5/8" plywood, (unless edge detail is thicker than
1-1/2") level and flat, with extra support in front and back of sinks and
cook tops. Additional support is needed on overhangs when there is 1/8"
movement with 50 LBS of pressure, which is equal to elbow or upper body
weight. Korbels work best to make the overhangs ridgid, this is done by
others. Subtops need to be screwed into cabinets with screwheads
counter-sunk. Subtop edge should be set flush or slightly behind the face of
cabinets. At overhangs the subtop edge should be 1-1/2 back from finish
granite/silestone dimension.

3.
TOPMOUNT SINKS AND COOKTOPS on site and holes cut in the plywood subtop.
Set in place to make sure they fit. (Sink can be plumbed for use, after the
field measure, but all plumbing and fixtures must be disconnected and
removed one day prior to installation so the sink can be lifted out for
granite/silestone installation.)

4.

UNDERMOUNT SINKS cast iron and stainless steel undermount sinks are
countersunk flush or 1/16" below top of subtop. Save the paper templates
that come with new sink for our use. (Sink can be plumbed for use, after
template, but faucets and fixtures need to be removed one day prior to
granite/silestone installation.)

A. Regular Undermount Sink - requires a rectangular cutout and polish on the
inside edge, and the faucets are installed directly into the sink.

B. Irregular Undermount Sink- is when sink cut out is an irregular shape and
the faucets go through the counter. In this case all fixtures must be on
site and holes located. If the client prefers this design he must select a
true undermount sink with holes approximately 3 inches in diameter so
plumber can fasten fixtures to the bottom of the granite/silestone. Also
there are separate sink bowls with no fixture holes that will work.

5.
BATH-LAVATORY SINKS such as Kohler K2210 and American Cut a rectangular
hole in the subtop so the sink and the faucets can be directly attached to
the bottom of the granite/silestone. We drill and insert 1 / 4 "-20 threaded
inserts into the bottom of the granite/silestone and supply clips and bolts
for the plumber to fasten the sink to the stone. No need to cut oval shape
into the plywood.

6.
BACKSPLASH If back splash in another material such as ceramic tile we
need to know the thickness of the material and the install method: mastic or
mud float.
7.
CLIENT OR PROJECT MANAGER must be present for the template/(measure) so
any questions, changes, interpretations of the contract can be communicated.
This is when all decisions are made about your project. Any changes made
after this visit may cost delays and extra charges. The engineer does not
determine any new prices or decide course of action. Please call the
salesperson if you have any questions.
8.
SEAM LOCATION is the responsibility of the engineer and placement is
governed by slab size, veining, strength of material to insure safe
delivery, installation, and serviceability of finish product. Seams are
decided at template/ measure and can not be changed afterwards.
9.
CHANGES made after template will require additional charges for
re-templating, redrawing, and/ or refabricating. Better to delay the
template until everything is ready than to cause extra expense and wasted
time.
10.
APPLIANCE GARAGES and cabinets that sit on top of the counter must be
installed after the granite/silestone has been installed. If the backsplash
butts up to the garage, we must plan what point we measure to, for the
splash. We will not slide stone under a appliance garage.
11.

PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL BY OTHERS

12.

TRIP CHARGE when we arrive at the job site on the date and time frame
given, and we can not proceed because of any 1 thru 11, a trip charge of
$200.00 will occur.
